Remember when I said there were only two good tracks off Exciter? This wasn't one of them. My nightmare continues as I started questioning my fandom. This was the third consecutive single that was far from up to scratch. Even Anton was getting lazy with his artwork, but he gets a pass because it still looked nice considering what was to come. I think they threw in a B-Side, and I think it was called 'Zenstation'. Whatever. Anyways, it was yet another single where all the mixes sounded alike and all were crappy, all but a couple: a single remix by Flood, a hard house mix by Powder Productions, and Deep Dish's Freedom Mixes. I can't speak for Josh Wink's mix because I didn't listen to it due to the fact that a) I don't have the promo, and b) even if I did, I would never listen to it because Josh Wink is dead to me. The next good mix he comes up with will be his first. Let's go back to the good mixes shall we? For obvious reasons, Flood, who was seemingly unavailable for the recording sessions, was desparately drafted to come up with a single remix that turns Freelove into something listenable. House legends Deep Dish take it even further by putting it to Enjoy The Silence's trademark percussive loop. It plays more like Enjoy the Silence with new lyrics more than it does as a Freelove remix. Thank God! No, Thank Deep Dish for that's just what they do. Too bad they couldn't save the DVD single. After being technological pioneers for so long, the band were clearly slipping when they released their first DVD outing. Most video single releases normally, at the very least, contain the videoclip of the song. Not this one. They put three live clips and four insignificantly short clips of fans. In my dream, I remember it was best to make sure I kept it wrapped because it was better seen than played. And what about that video? In my dream/nightmare, I recall that lessons were not learned and John Hillcoat was brought back in for another slice of rock video queso. This time, it takes place in New Orleans, around the time they were there for their Excitour stop. Hillcoat thought he was slick in working in the trademark megaphones onto a mardi-gras reject of a float while attracting the local townsfolk to hop onboard the Freelove express to the outskirts so they can dance mindlessly on a dirt road. The band were performing, again, this time with Christian Eigner playing drums. Did this mean they were breaking down and replacing Alan with a drummer as we speculated all those years ago? Still a trio? Phew, that was close. Either way, it's not a good video, but thankfully Peter Gordeno wasn't in it. Not close enough for the next part of my nightmare… US Releases
