Before there was Buddy Christ, or "The Passion of the Christ" there was "Personal Jesus". If you saw Martin's Nashville shopping spree in 101, you may have seen or heard this one coming. No musician binges on that much Country music and suffers from writer's block afterwards. P-Jizzle is the firstborn from that blurry night in Nashville, dressed in a simple black on blue painted cross in the front and every band member with a naked woman on the back.

Bong 17 was released in late 1989 with 4 additional versions mixed along with 2 extra mixes for its b-side "Dangerous". This was DM fans' first taste of house legend Francois Kervorkian's wizardry who is very much an integral part of the success of the Violator singles. He would make significant remix contributions throughout the Violator campaign. "Dangerous" remains one of the most popular and successful of DM B-Sides. As the single was released more than six months before Enjoy the Silence and Violator, KROQ and other US radio stations spun this B-side to the point that it charted to #13 on Billboard's Modern Rock charts. When the dust settled in the spring of 1990, P-Jizzle shot up to #28 on Billboard's Hot 100, becoming the best selling 12" release in Warner Bros. history. As time went by, the song was covered by the likes of Gravity Kills, Marilyn Manson, and Johnny Cash.

And then there's the video… It's good clean fun in a Spanish bordello as the boys travel from diffrent corners. The madam greets the fellas with a smile as they approach closer to the entrance. And what do they find? It's an Anton video so take a guess. The horse's ass that appears midway into the vid gave MTV censors coronaries, or at least used beastiality as an out to cut it from future airings.

In case you were wondering, the answer is NO! There, sadly, was no video filmed for "Dangerous". Thankfully they remembered to make a vid for their next release though…

G BONG 17 came with a folded sheet of photos of each band member with the naked girl. These photos were used for the back covers of the Personal Jesus releases. Martin's pic was on the 7", Dave's on the 12", Alan's on the CD, and Fletch's on the Cassettes.
