In 1986, it was the right time to jettison Clive Richardson in favour of Anton Corbijn for directorial duties. This resulted in a string of successful videos. Many acts in the 80's enlisted heavy hitters to film their videos. None more notorious in recruitment than Michael Jackson, who hired "Animal House" director John Landis for "Thriller", then Martin Scorsese for "Bad". However, no recording artist/filmaker collaboration was more successful to the degree that DM's has been with Anton. DM's entire image was overhauled dramatically. It started with the videos, then it worked into the cover art, then the stage designs. DM were already doing well for themselves to this point, but they became the total package with Anton's help (especially around '90, and we all know about '90).
Speaking of packages, "AQOT" sports a fine extended remix by Mr Mixmaster Phil Harding. The beautiful L12 BONG 12 features the grand New Town Mix/Live Remix and a Black Tulip Mix of "Black Celebration" both by Rico Conning. Both 12 and L12 contain live tracks culled from the Black Celebration tour, with the highlight being for "More Than A Party", the unlikely finale of the show. The inagural video in the Anton era features a man transporting a precious noob housed in the sidecar of his motorcycle up the Antelope Valley Freeway in search of Alan who then takes possesion of said noob into a home where his bandmates also are sporting precious noobs of their own. Apparently, someone at the precious noob delivery service got the order wrong and only sent three babies instead of four. Interlaced within this storyline are bits of tour footage from the Black Celebration tour. Unlike the colourful collages used by his predecessors, Anton employed a black & white grainy super 8 shot which almost instantly put the band into their own world. DM now had their own vision to complement their own sound, and it started here.
