Singles DiscographyA Question of LustChartsUK (28) Germany (8) Notes
This is my favourite of Mart's ballads. And it's a good release too. 12 BONG 11 is a nice assortment of tracks ranging from the very strange Minimal to the uber tropical "Christmas Island". For the life of me, I cannot recall any band making such a big deal out of a cassette single release like Mode did in 1986. C BONG 11 was released as a limited edition cassette single. Now, this is Depeche we're talking about. And we all know that cassettes come in cases right? Not this one. This one comes in an enlarged thick sleeve including a badge, the casssette without a case, and a lyric booklet which is more like a cd booklet. Very odd packaging. So what's on it? A brilliant mix of Lust by Flood, "Christmas Island" (Penned by both Martin & Alan), and three live cuts: "Blasphemous Rumours", "If You Want", and "Shame". Oh but get this, Intercord did the right thing and pressed this on vinyl, thus creating their own L12 BONG 11. Vogue in France did one better and put it on CD, making their own LCD BONG 11. Tre Wunderbar or Das ist Fantastique, take your pick. The video for Lust sees the last of Clive Richardson who sadly gets it after years of his lame videos. It's a good performance based clip featuring the band on tour. The outdoor shots of this clip somewhat mimics Tears for Fears' Shout video. In fact, you may even see Roland and Curt roaming in the background armed with scowls and mullets. It feels like the last day of school if you ask me 'cause the videoclips get better and better from here. If you're scoring at home, Lust peaked at #8 in Deutschland and #28 in the UK. US Releases
