Notes

ItGranted, lyrically it's on par with "People Are People" but musically, this is one of a handful of songs that could touch the brilliance of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love", the Rappers' Delight for electronic music. This hearty farty opus is far more listenable than any of the Exciter singles combined. The arpreggiation is killer but you have to listen for it on the single and extended versions. It's much more accentuated by Joseph Watt on his Emotion Remixes, a huge omission on the remixes album but was featured in The Complete Depeche Mode

Something else I won't disagree with you is the Slow Mix. The Slow Mix until 2004, was the universally agreed and verified by a former member of the band as the biggest remix turd ever released by the band. It's half the speed and double the torture. Nearly 20 years later, the Slow Mix is almost Shakespearian in listenability now that we have the massacre at lincoln park, I mean Mike Shinoda's reinterpretation of Enjoy the Silence as the worst remix ever shited by the band. If you are reading this Mike Shinoda, I hereby demand the four minutes of my life back that I took to listen to your massacre of one of my favourite songs.

Mode Collectors actually get some serious treats from the band for this release. US Fans got Razormaid on a special stickered 12" release. UK fans got posters in their 7 BONG 9 (well, at least some of them did) along with D12 BONG 9, the band's first double 12" release housing both 12 BONG 9 and L12 BONG 9 in the same sleeve.

The video is not that crappy either. Peter Care takes the lads to the cornfields as he weaves stock footage of villagers and Andy Kaufman making fun of Elvis. Something Peter Care does not get enough credit for is being behind the camera during the days that the band consumed more peroxide for their collective coiffs than all the new wave bands, all the industrial bands, and everyone in New Jersey circa 1984 combined.

Now that I won that turd polishing contest, let's talk b-sides. "Fly on the Windscreen" is far from shitty! It's a DM classic that seems to get better with age (especially in 1993). But as the b-side, it's actually missing the samples that made it the heart and soul of the following year's "Black Celebration". Thank God for the Death Mix. Seemingly armed with nothing but samples, Gareth Jones send us all into a post apocalyptic cold war nuclear afterlife. If world war three ever happens, it will definitely sound like the Death Mix.
