Singles DiscographyShake the DiseaseChartsUK (18) Germany (4) Notes
But what's the fun in that? Mart decided to play germ warfare with this tender midtempo ballad. Mononucleosis just has nothing on this. The band truly steps up with a solid release that doubles as a turning point for the band. They had to take everything to the next level and not look back. The voice, the song, the production were all tighter, serving as a blueprint for future releases. On the flipside, DM hee-haw it up with the skiffle sounding "Flexible". If you listen carefully, it's the first (and maybe only) time Dave adlibs on a studio recording. Something I've always liked about DM is how they dabble with other genres without making a big deal out of it. Skiffle, which had its moments in the early 80's, crashed and burned with Dexy's Midnight Runners cumming on Eileen. By 1985, it was over, but that didn't stop DM, and it worked for them. These are two good songs here, but the true star has to be Gareth Jones' Metalmix of "Something to Do". It's a pure remix masterpiece on L12 BONG 8. However this heavy metal opus has been known to cause migraines. The promo for "Shake" was directed by veteran filmmaker Peter Care, who is better known for directing New Order's "Regret" and REM's "Man on the Moon". This one features the band outside a factory with an odd camera trick that I can't do a good job explaining so I'll just make you watch it for yourself. US Releases
