This edgy, racy, four-minute kink fest was another top 10 hit in the UK back in 1984. At this point, DM were perfecting their use of sampling to add atmospheres to their songs. As "People Are People" has a militant, warlike atmosphere, "Master and Servant" takes you straight down to the dungeon and whips at your ears. It's the sort of thing that leaves a lasting impression. Adrian Sherwood returns for 2 more mixes: Master and Servant (An OnUSound Science Fiction Dancehall Classic) and Are People People? (Da La Lang Lang Lang Zoom Zoom Zoooooom…….Bop Bop Bop). Both of these mixes are cutting edge for 1984. Not many mixes released around that time deviated from sounding like the original versions. These two mixes are total reworks that were as distinctive as being an extra song on an album. This is also our first taste of the Razormaid remix service (Joseph Watt). He mixed the ubercool Black and Blue Mix, which was exclusively released in the US, and mixed its B-Side, (Set Me Free) Remotivate Me, a synthpop classic. Dozens more songs would get remixed by Razormaid, all of them at the very least, are good extended remixes. Don't forget the Slavery Whip mix that has the band ending the mix as a lounge act. It's long and drawn out but the ending is priceless. So you ask about the video? Wot's it like? In this video episode, the band demonstrates safe horseplay with chains while Dave shows that he pioneered the two tone mullet long before it got popular in redneck America. Clive Richardson really wants you to know that Master and Servant is a lot like life with his stock footages of domesticated women and marching dignitaries. Fun for all! US Releases
